    Land Rover engines burning up

Has anyone had or knows someone who´s had the experience of their discovery engine going in flames.  My car did and was diagnosed by the dealer to have malfunctions in the ACE pump.  Researching the internet I found that Land Rover has made a recall on discovery engines burning up due to failures in the ACE pump.  Can anyone give me more information.

Had engine replaced in my LR discovery TD5 1999 two years ago, after 300,000 miles.
The engine in the defender (1996, 90) still running after 145,000 miles.

How come the LR diesel engines blow after 300 miles and toyota diesels will survive up to million miles?
